On August 20, PGA Tour Championship Director Martin Stephenson ’99 led twentyalumni and some guests on a behind-the-scenestour of East Lake Golf Club and a preview of theTour Championship that started on the coursetwo days later. Martin’s one-hour walking tourincluded the media center, the first tee, hospitalityareas surrounding the eighteenth green, and thepractice range. He included a brief history of EastLake and the tournament and discussed the build-out process and overall tournament operations.The timing was special because some of thegolfers were on the course and practicing and thegates were closed to the public. Assistant Directorof Alumni Relations William Browning ’82 said,“We appreciate the generosity of Martin and ofEli Green ’94, president of the Atlanta AssociationBoard, and his colleagues on the board fororganizing the event.”
East Lake Golf Club Tour
A full house at the Piedmont Driving Club greeted Headmaster Byron Hulsey ’86when he visited Atlanta in December. Along withalumni representing a wide range of classes, itwas a special treat to see so many parents, both ofcurrent students and of alumni, join the gathering.This year there are more than a dozen studentsfrom the Atlanta metropolitan area at Woodberry.
Dr. Hulsey shared an update on the currentschool year and the long-term plans he has set incoordination with the board of trustees beforeall of the assembled guests enjoyed an eveningof connecting with old friends and making newacquaintances.
Woodberry also drew a big crowd this fall inNew York City, an increasingly popular college andcareer destination for our students and alumni. Ifyou’ve moved to NYC lately, let us know!
