1958 Harry Lassiter ’ 58 and three other Tigers gathered in Floridathis March. Joining Mr. Lassiter, pictured left toright, were Mary Ann Lassiter, Bruce Babcock’ 58, Robbie Irvin, Anne Babcock, Dave Irvin ’ 57,and Allen Lassiter ’66. The group enjoyed lunchtogether, creating happy memories during theseuncertain times. 1
1960 During Black History Month, the Rutgers University event “AnEvening of Gospel Choirs” celebrated its thirty-eighth anniversary. The event was founded in1982 by Angus Gillespie ’ 60, a professor in theAmerican Studies department. The event happenseach year during February, and it is now the oldestcontinuous and best-attended Black HistoryMonth event at the university.
In honor of his sixtieth reunion, Charlie Shaffer’ 60 received a replica of his #14 Woodberryfootball jersey from his classmate Tony Gould’ 60 and head football coach Scott Braswell. Mr.Shaffer was one of the stars of the legendary1959 Woodberry football team that ended athirteen-game non-winning streak to EpiscopalHigh School with a 13–7 win. His game-winningtouchdown pass to his classmate Mike Reily ’ 60is immortalized in Johnson Stadium with a muralshowcasing him running out the clock at the endof the game. 2
1965 Temple Grassi ’ 65 enjoyed spending time with his grandsonand future Tiger, Wally Purcell, in June. Theymatched as they both wore Woodberry gear. 3
1969 Monty Blanchard ’69 and Leslie Tcheyan represented Woodberryin the Huangshan Mountains of China. The twotraversed the mountain range to start off the newyear on the right foot. 4
